Highlights for me - Berezinsky National Park, walking through the forest, up to the expansive raised bog with a local guide who was enthusiastic, knew everything and explained it in an enjoyable way. Villages with colourful painted wooden houses and gardens with colourful flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. Khatin villages war memorial, a clearing in the forest where a village was exterminated by Nazis and has now been used to remember all such 186 villages, headed up by a giant statue of a partisan carrying a dead child with tombs to represent all the villages and the houses of Khatin with the names and ages of inhabitants as well as other features. It was haunting but very memorable. Impressive castles. People who helped us and put up with our lack of Russian.

Tips - it is an exploring trip so there can be a lot of driving and seeing things and you move on every day, except 2 in Berezinsky, but if you accept that then it's a very interesting over view of a little known country, to us. It's probably not what you expect. We were all pleasantly surprised.

East Anglia
Minsk, the two castles and canoeing in the national park.

The tour was exactly as described in the brochure. Belarus is not well developed as a tourist destination - go if you are prepared for some minor inconveniences but recognise that these are outweighed by the pleasure of visiting somewhere well off the beaten track yet not very far away.
