Why travel on a Self-Guided Walking holiday?

  • Maximum flexibility - Choose the best date for your self-guided walking trip and depart on any day of the week. Get up when you want, start your day early to catch the sunrise or enjoy a lie in – it’s your holiday after all! Walk at your own pace, stop for coffee and cake or to take a photo whenever you feel like it.
  • Choose your travel companions – Travel on your own, as a couple or with friends – you choose who you holiday with.
  • Local support – On a self-guided holiday you still have full support from our local crew. They transport your luggage while you walk and provide 24/7 emergency back-up in case you lose your way or need help.
  • Feel good factor – Navigating from point to point and completing a well-planned route, as well as the physical exertion of getting yourself to your destination under your own steam will give you a great sense of satisfaction.
  • Hand-chosen accommodation - Our hotels are hand-selected for their character, comfort, warm welcome and of course location. We use a wide range of 2 to 4 star accommodation types including family-run, locally owned, hotels, farmhouses, charming chateaux and guesthouses. Whilst trekking in the mountains we sometimes stay in refuges - 'rifugi' – typical mountain lodges where you can share your experiences of the trail with fellow walkers.
  • Walking trips for different abilities - Many of our self-guided walking holidays are graded from Easy to Moderate or Moderate and they are perfectly suited to first-timers and weekend walkers of moderate fitness. We also offer some Challenging grade trips with longer distances and more mountainous terrain. You can find route and terrain information along with the daily distance walked and walk approximate times on the tour notes.
  • Luggage transported for you - On almost all nights your main luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel while you relax and enjoy the trail. Very occasionally, you will need to take your luggage with you on local transport. Each day, you will just need to carry your essentials in a rucksack, and you’ll be reunited with all your belongings at the end of the day’s walk.
