• Don't travel too far from the group, let someone know where you're going or better still, invite one of your new friends and fellow travellers to join you.
• Be vigilant when exploring a new place, especially in busy and unfamiliar areas.
• Learn a little of the local language or pack a phrasebook - this will help you to get the most out of your holiday too and locals always appreciate the effort.
• Check whether you’ll need any vaccinations well before you travel. Your GP can advise on what you may need and arrange an appointment for you to receive relevant vaccinations - take a look at our Travel Health page for tips on staying healthy on your holiday.
• Make sure your passport meets the entry requirements for your destination. Some countries require at least six months’ validity after your return date.
