Small group cycling tours to Spain

Take a cycling holiday in Spain to enjoy the picturesque whitewashed villages and hilltop towns, fascinating history and delicious food and drink.

Our small group cycling tours in Spain use hybrid or mountain bicycles (e-bikes are available for an extra cost on most trips). Most rides are led by a local leader with expert knowledge about the area. The leader will guide you along the route and organise things such as group meals, transfers and optional excursions, making your cycling holiday run smoothly. And you'll share the journey with other like-minded cyclists.

Best tour destinations in Spain

  • Murcia - In the south of Spain, Murcia boasts scenic whitewashed villages and Moorish architecture. Visit between late February and late March to breathe in the sweet aroma of the almond and apricot blossom trees as you cycle through idyllic countryside ablaze with colour.
  • Andalucia - With its golden beaches, scenic hilltop towns and fascinating history, Andalucia is a great destination for a cultural cycling holiday. The area has a long tradition of making sherry, a fortified wine made from white grapes grown near the city of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia. Visit the region and you'll find the towns are scattered with bodegas and tabancos (bars selling sherry from the barrel poured by a skilled venenciador).
  • Camino del Santiago - This famous pilgrimage is most often walked, but it is also an ideal route for cycling.

What to expect on a cycling tour to Spain

We've answered some of the top questions about our cycling holidays in Spain:

When is the best time to take a cycling trip to Spain?

Spring, early summer and autumn are ideal times for a Spanish trip - though the weather varies enormously from region to region. The high central plains experience fierce extremes, boiling hot in summer, bitterly cold and swept by freezing winds in winter. The Atlantic coast, in contrast, has a tendency to experience a bit more damp and mist, and a milder summer than the south. The Mediterranean south is warm virtually all year round. Spain's Islands the Canaries and Balaerics experience very mild winters and warm summers making them ideal year round destinations.

How difficult is a cycling trip to Spain?

This depends on the cycling trip you choose. Our Spain trips range from Easy to Moderate to Challenging , but the largest number are Moderate. This means fairly flat terrain with some fairly easy gradients. Check the trip page for a breakdown of the daily distance cycled and the total accumulated metres ascended.

What's the accommodation like?

The majority of our Spain cycling trips include Comfortable accommodation. Generally, you can expect an en-suite room in a locally-run hotel but check the trip page for more information about the accommodation. We include the accommodation names on the itinerary so you can see where you'll stay (the exact place may change but we'll always try to find something of the same standard).

What will the food be like?

Of course when visiting Spain you can expect some delicious food and drink. On most Spain cycling trips we'll include breakfast in your hotel, but the other meals are not included so you can decide for yourself what to choose. On small group trips your tour leader will be happy to recommend local restaurants and you can choose whether or not to eat as a group. In regions known particularly for a type of cuisine or drink we try to include an experience like wine tasting or tapas sampling.

Is cycling in Spain suitable for solo travellers?

Yes, on our small group cycling trips, as with any of our small group tours, you'll be with other travellers who will likely be looking for the same experiences as you are. More often than not you'll be joined by other solo travellers in the group, so you'll be in good company.
