Best cycling tour destinations in Croatia

Dalmatian Coast
Jump in the saddle to explore long stretches of golden-sand beaches lapped by azure-blue seas along Croatia’s sun-drenched Dalmatian Coast. Pedal atop pearlescent cliffs towering above the rocky shores and peer over the edge to discover heavenly bays teeming with exotic marine life. Soak up the sweet smell of lavender as you ascend into the leafy hills of Hvar and lose yourself in the picture-perfect scenery as you coast down to the harbour to have lunch overlooking the glistening ocean.

Korcula Island
Explore the flourishing island of Korcula on two wheels to uncover fertile vineyards, medieval sandstone dwellings, vibrant terracotta roofs and idyllic bays gilded with golden sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters. Pedal along quiet roads into the vast rural hillsides to uncover the island’s oldest settlement and feel the warm breeze rush past your face as you freewheel to the traditional fishing village of Zavalatica to savour the catch of the day.

Cycle to the historic town of Split to discover a bygone era of pre-Romanesque churches, Gothic chapels and alleyways lined with narrow, cobblestone streets and rustic townhouses adorned with faded emerald-green shutters. Little boutique shops draw you in to browse their eclectic wares, and tasty treats can be enjoyed in rustic hole-in-the-wall cafes. Top-up the energy levels with a feast of fresh fish in one of the promenade’s waterfront restaurants and rest tired legs on the pristine golden-sand beaches.

Parenzana Trail
Go beyond the beaten track and pedal along the dusty trails of a disused railway line on the famous Parenzana route from Portoroz to Porec. Meander through the verdant Istrian hills, past olive groves and vineyards, across river gorges and through medieval villages en route to the hilltop town of Buje. From here, it's a fast descent down to the glistening azure-blue sea and a pedal along the coastline to the ancient peninsula town of Porec where the ornately decorated Euphrasius basilica awaits.

What to expect on a cycling holiday in Croatia

When is the best time to join a cycling trip to Croatia?
Our Croatia cycling trips run from May through to October during which you can expect warm days ranging from the low to mid 20s with temperatures creeping into the 30’s in July and August. For slightly cooler days, choose a ride at either end of the season in Spring or Autumn.

How challenging are the cycling tours in Croatia?
Our cycling tours to Croatia range in difficulty from easy to moderate. The terrain on our Dalmatian Coast Cycling Tour is undulating with a few steep inclines, but the hills are relatively short and the overall cycling distances per day are modest. On our self-guided cycling tour to Porec, the terrain is mostly flat, but the distances covered per day are a bit longer. Take a look at our Cycling Grades page to get a better idea of which grade of cycling tour is right for you.

What kind of bikes are included on your Croatia cycling holidays?
We ride 24-gear hybrid bikes on our Croatia cycling holidays. Included in the cost of the trip, we’ll provide a frame size that is suitable for your height and help you to make adjustments to make sure it’s as comfortable as possible before we set off. If you want a bit of extra power, electric bikes are also available for an additional fee.

What is the accommodation like on your Croatia cycling holidays?
At the end of each ride, we’ll stay in a comfortable hotel so you can rest your legs before the next day’s adventure. The level of service is good and the rooms usually have ensuite facilities. Please check the individual tour notes for more details about the accommodation available.

Is cycling in Croatia suitable for solo travellers?
Yes! Our Croatia cycling tours are very popular with solo travellers. In fact, it’s not unusual for at least half of the riders to join the trip on their own. And you certainly won’t feel alone for long as you pedal along quiet rural roads surrounded by new-found friends and spectacular scenery.

How does your self-guided Croatia cycling trip work?
If you fancy heading off at your own pace and navigating through the wonders of Croatia under your own steam, our self-guided cycling tour gives you the freedom to do just that. We’ll provide a bike, give you detailed maps and GPX files, and book the hotels and luggage transfers for a hassle-free cycling adventure. Take a look at our Self-Guided Holidays page to find out more.
