Will my 2019 holiday be affected by Brexit?

We answer your biggest questions about how Brexit might impact your travel plans.

Will my holiday still go ahead if we leave the EU with ‘no deal’?

There is nothing to suggest that travel plans will be impacted by Brexit, whatever the outcome. It has been confirmed that flights between EU countries and the UK will continue to operate as normal until at least the end of 2020.

I’m planning to visit Europe this summer – will I need a visa after Brexit?

You shouldn’t need a visa to travel to the EU after Brexit, even in a no-deal scenario. The European Commission has suggested that UK citizens will need to pay a visa exemption fee of around €7 per person from 2021. But until then, there will be no charge.

Should I take out travel insurance to protect myself against Brexit?

While there is no indication that travel will be affected by Brexit, the best way you can protect your holiday is by booking it with flights, as a package. In the case of the highly unlikely possibility of you being unable to fly, we will refund you in full. If you organise your own flights it will be your responsibility to get to the start of the tour. If we need to cancel any trip, we will refund whatever you’ve paid in full.

Will I now need health insurance in Europe?

In the event of a no deal Brexit, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will no longer be valid. We always advise taking out a comprehensive travel insurance policy ahead of taking a trip anyway, whether in Europe or further afield, as the EHIC inclusions can be limited.

Will prices increase on European trips?

It’s not yet clear how holiday prices will be affected by Brexit. However, once you book your trip we guarantee that the price will not increase, whatever happens. Unlike most other travel companies, we’ll cover the cost of any surcharges that might arise, and absorb any changes to the exchange rate. So between paying your trip deposit and settling the balance, you can rest assured that the original price quoted is the price you’ll pay.
We’re keeping a close eye on the situation and how it impacts travel, and will update you with any developments. To keep up to date with Explore news, trip launches and special offers, sign up to receive our emails.
