Tales from Zambia and Malawi
E-mail Print

Hannah Cuss, Explore Tailormade’s Product and Customer Service Executive, recently visited Malawi and Zambia. Here she shares a few thoughts on the time she spent there.

“Malawi is known as “the warm heart of Africa” and the friendly, happy people certainly live up to the name.  My recent trip included a stay on Lake Malawi where a visit to a village allowed us to interact with the children and at last, learn how to play bao board, a game that has always puzzled me!

The wildlife is another big draw of people to Malawi. A stay in Liwonde National Park saw impala, waterbuck and bushbuck, populations of which have flourished due to a lack of predators; the park only has one lion!

We had a fabulous boat safari where we got to watch elephant and hippo splashing around in the water.  Just outside South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, with great views over the river, Kapani Lodge provides a relaxing retreat between early morning and late afternoon games drives.  During which we saw two prides of lions, Thornicroft’s giraffe, hyena, zebra, genet, over 35 species of bird, but the most magical moment had to be spotting our first leopard drinking from a watering hole in the early evening.”

A very unique sundowner in Zambia
zambiasundownerHannah’s visit to Africa also took in Zambia, where she heard a very interesting tale. One evening, a group were partaking in a sundowner at Kapani Lodge, when some lions decided they wanted to be part of it.

The animals casually wandered up to the group and settled themselves down, even helping themselves to one of the lamps lighting the area! Luckily everyone kept safe in a safari vehicle, but they definitely had a unique story and photographs to share with friends and family when they got home!
