When to Travel

Despite its location close to the Equator, Rwanda is also a mountainous country and so enjoys the benefits of the cooling properties of high altitude. The main wet seasons run from mid-January to April and from mid-October to mid-December, although rainwear is advisable at any time of the year. June to August is  a good time to travel as temperatures are pleasant. Average daytime temperatures are generally around 24°C, with highs reaching the mid-30s, and the average temperature in Kigali hovering around 19-20 °C.

WELCOMING, APES, LUSH

Rwanda comprises stunning scenery, rainforests rich with wildlife, including the enigmatic mountain gorilla, and friendly people taking steps away from a troubled past. This makes Rwanda a diverse and rewarding place to visit.

Meet Anneli Rudiger, Regional Specialist for Rwanda

 Anneli
Rolling hills, patchwork fields, fertile rainforests and craggy peaks provide a beautiful backdrop for any trip to Rwanda. Despite its turbulent past of the 1994 genocide, the locals are some of the friendliest and hospitable people you’ll come across in East Africa. A highlight has to be trekking in the national parks in search of the golden monkey, chimpanzees and, of course, the powerful mountain gorilla.

“Hiking in one of Africa’s oldest forests, home to 13 species of primates including habituated chimpanzees, golden and vervet monkeys, and olive baboons.”

Birdlife

TM-Rwanda-Birdlife

“Over 600 species including great blue turaco, paradise flycatcher and many hornbills – which you’ll hear a long time before you see them!”

Gorilla Tracking

Gorilla-Tracking

“Walking in the footsteps of Dian Fossey, the first sighting of this magnificent beast is truly extraordinary and humbling. Tracking gorillas really is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in the world.”
