Explore enters into the world of postgraduate study
E-mail Print

Explore is once again venturing into somewhere new, and this time it’s into the world of postgraduate study.

As one of the UK’s most highly respected responsible tour operators, Explore works hard to ensure that the tourism we create is of benefit to the local communities and environments that we visit. From employing local tour leaders and guides to eating in local restaurants and staying in family run hotels, we do everything we can to support the local communities we visit. We also promote responsible tourism amongst our customers, and only travel in small groups to minimise our impact on the environment.

In recognition of our work, we've received a number of awards including the five star responsible tourism rating (the highest possible) from the Association of Independent Tour Operators.

But it’s not just down to Explore to look after our planet. In order to preserve the places we all love to visit, responsible tourism practices need to be applied throughout the tourism industry. With this in mind, we've been working closely with the University of Surrey to create a postgraduate degree to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of responsible tourism.

The course, entitled ‘MSc in Sustainable Tourism in Association with Explore’, has been specifically designed both for people already working in the tourism industry and those with a key interest in developing a career in sustainable tourism. Drawing on a range of industry case studies, including Explore, the course will teach students how to apply sustainable tourism practices in their everyday working lives. Members of the Explore team will be giving guest lectures at the university, and will also be offering students the chance to go behind the scenes and visit our offices in Farnborough. In addition to this, we will be hosting a week long international field trip, allowing students the chance to witness first-hand the importance of sustainable tourism.

This is great news for Explore and for the whole tourism industry. With more people keeping responsible tourism at the forefront of their minds, the places we love to visit can remain unspoilt for the future generation of travellers.

Further information on the ‘MSc in Sustainable Tourism in Association with Explore’ can be found here. The course is now bookable and starts in September 2012.
