What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour
In such a varied and full-on tour, it is hard to pick out memorable moments. Kayaking in Ha Long Bay was spectacular, the reunification express fun, the war museum disturbing, the food good in local places, but after time to reflect, I find things like trying to cross the road in Hanoi quite memorable! Our guide took us to a Vietnamese wedding which was also a highlight, the guests being so friendly and welcoming.
How Was Your Explore Tour Leader
Our guide Tho was very good. He made sure we saw as much as possible within the time constraints.
What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour
Be prepared to feel hot and sticky. Also there are some long days travelling, and as you often stay only one night in places it feels quite rushed. Although there are activities available when possible, like kayaking, riding dug out canoes, cycling etc, generally this is a sight seeing trip.
Do You Have Anything Else To Add
"None of us liked Na Trang and would have preferred another night in Hoi An instead. Hoi An was perfect to chill for a few days with enough to do, but relaxing after Hanoi and Hue. We were impressed with the quality of hotels. Although I rated good not excellent this is because I realise I am more suited to a trip with more activity and not so much site seeing. It was all interesting and I'm glad I went, and it was very well organised."
"Thank you for your review. It certainly sounds as though you have come home with some great memories.
We were sorry to hear that your group did not enjoy visiting Na Trang. We visit both towns, as we believe Hoi An and Na Trang have a variety of different things to offer. Depending on the type of traveller you are, customers will have different opinions over which town they prefer to visit.
We appreciate your comments about your tour leader Tho, these have been passed onto our Operations Manager."
What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?
This was my fourth trip with Explore and the only unsatisfactory one."
How was your Explore Tour Leader?
The tour leader was very proficient but this was the first time on an Explore trip that I was pressured to give a tip to a tour leader.
What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
The trip was much more physically demanding than the Active Level 2 stated on my trip notes. I disagree that a five hour trek in Kon Tum constitutes a lever 2. Be prepared to be exposed to constant shopping, every where. While three days/2 night in Hoi An was good for people who wanted to have custom tailor clothes/shoes made; if you don't expect too long of s stay there. The over-night train ride from Hanoi to Hue was awful. There were cockroaches, a drunk stranger joined us in our cabin, and a rock was thrown totally shattering the safety glass of our cabin window.
Do you have anything else to add?
Although meals not included with the trip were supposed to be on our own; our tour leader herded the group to a specific restaurant, often with a preset meal. If one chose not to join the group, they were pretty much on their own to fend for themselves. While most of the hotels were excellent; I was most shocked when the massage person sent by the Asian Ruby hotel grabbed my privates and asked if I wanted "that" massaged. When I asked our tour leader if I should inform the hotel, he said no.
It was very disappointing to read about your experience on the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue. We have not heard of such issues before, however this is currently being followed up with our Operations Manager
We were also concerned about your comments relating to the Asian Ruby Hotel. Our ground agent has been made aware of what happened and is following this up directly with the hotel.
