Axum
An early morning flight brings you to Axum, the ancient capital of the Aksumite Kingdom and one of the holiest cities in Ethiopia. Pre-dating the arrival of Christianity in Africa, its intricately carved granite obelisks (stelae) are thought to be funeral monuments for its ancient rulers.
