China is a country filled with "eye-opening contradictions", like the juxtaposition of historically important ancient areas and cutting-edge modernity, which draw people on solo holidays to the region.
Damian Harper, who is the coordinating author for the latest edition of Lonely Planet's China guide, said that the country brings together so many different elements.
"Antique yet up-to-the-minute, familiar yet unrecognisable, outwardly urban but quintessentially rural, conservative yet path-breaking, space-age but old-fashioned, China is a land of mesmerising and eye-opening contradictions," he said.
People planning trips to the country can take a walking holiday they will never forget, along the Great Wall of China. Travellers can also visit the breath-taking Eastern Qing Tombs, which are the final resting ground of the Qing dynasty.
Mr Harper also recommended that people taking solo holidays to China should ensure they try some of the area's fantastic food, such as momo - boiled Chinese dumplings.
