Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo feature highly as the best cities for food
People may wish to take solo holidays to the region of south-east Asia, after it was voted the place most people would visit if they wanted to go on holiday just to try the food.
That is according to a poll taken by guidebook company Lonely Planet, which had the Thai capital of Bangkok as the number one destination.
Hong Kong took the number four slot on the chart, while Singapore was sixth and Tokyo came in at number seven. European cities came in the second and third places, but by no where near large enough numbers to overtake the south-east Asian cities surrounding them.
Andy Murdock, a travel and food expert who writes for the guidebook company, said that some countries fell foul of having too much good food spread across the nation.
He wrote: "Some countries created anxiety for voters: the food is so good all across the country, how could anyone possibly be asked to pick a single city?
"Morocco and Greece slipped off the top 30 because of this, but in the end, too much good food certainly isn't a problem from a hungry traveller's perspective."
