Florence is the 'jewel' in Italy's crown

Florence is like an open-air museum due to its rich history, says travel writer

Families planning adventure holidays in Florence will discover the Tuscan capital is the jewel in Italy's crown, according to a travel writer.

Lizzy Price, writing for the Daily Express' travel website tripideas.co.uk, likened walking around Florence to "wandering around an open-air museum" due to its rich history.

She said: "Few cities can boast as much astounding history, compelling art and subtle beauty, with 70 museums and galleries offering up visual delights from such artistic legends as Michelangelo.

"Set among the wine-growing hills of Chianti, the cobbled streets, medieval alleyways and leafy squares are filled with centuries-old churches, traditional family run trattorias and swanky designer boutiques."

Ms Price added that once holidaymakers have finished looking around the city's various museums they will be able to indulge in some retail therapy and enjoy the local cuisine.

Florence is located in central Italy and has a population of about 367,569. It is widely considered the birthplace of the Renaissance art movement.
