Said to be the heart of Europe, Hungary is a green land full of natural beauty combining National Parks and wildlife with many historic buildings and monuments. We begin our tour of the best of Central Europe in the romantic capital Budapest. Situated on a beautiful stretch of the Danube, the city consists of two parts: Buda and Pest. Buda appears to be older, more graceful with cobbled streets and medieval buildings whilst Pest is the newer business centre. We explore both sides and there’s an opportunity to take a boat trip on the river.
Journeying north into rural Hungary, we arrive at Holloko a small, quiet, peaceful village tucked into the Cserhat hills and overlooked by Holloko Castle. From the castle ruins, the views over the Carpathian Mountains are spectacular. It is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Driving onto the Matra Mountains, there will a chance to climb the country’s highest peak Mt Kekes for more superb panoramic views of the countryside. On arrival in the beautifully preserved town of Eger, spend time wandering around the Baroque architecture or take a walk into the Bukk Hills.
